The Border features a large playing field, it’s set in a 6×6 format. There are no paylines for creating combinations. Wins are formed by combinations of at least five identical symbols in adjacent positions—vertically or horizontally. After a combination appears, all matching symbols disappear from the reels, and new symbols fall into place, allowing for additional combinations within a single spin.
If clusters of identical symbols appear on the grid during a spin, their quantities are added up. The player receives a payout based on the total number of symbols according to the payout table. Note that once the total number of symbols exceeds 160, the winnings stop increasing.
The playing field can display the following symbols:
- Low-value: Scorpion, Snake, and Eagle
- Medium-value: Portraits of a Woman, a Prisoner, and a Soldier in a Helmet
- High-value: Portraits of the Sheriff with a Revolver and the Mexican Boss
Bonus Game and Special Symbols
In the slot The Border, developers have added a number of special symbols:
- xWays — when it appears on the playing field, it reveals 2-4 random symbols.
- xSplit — appears on all reels except the first one and splits symbols to the left of it.
- xNudge Cluster Wild — combines with other symbols, and when it lands in a cluster, it replaces all symbols in that cluster, increasing the win by one for each such replacement.
- xBomb Wild — also interacts with other symbols; if it does not participate in a winning combination, it explodes, destroying neighbouring symbols and increasing the overall win multiplier by one.
- xCluster — appears only in bonus games. When two clusters of different symbols are present on the grid, their quantities are summed and assigned as a win multiplier to each symbol.
- Scatter – launches bonus games.
The first bonus in The Border slot is called Mule Spins. It activates when six Scatter symbols land on the grid, awarding the player 10 free spins. During these spins, an xCluster symbol can appear on the reels. Also, if an xWays symbol is part of a winning cluster, it reveals the same symbol as on adjacent positions and splits them into 2 or 4. If, during the spins, a Scatter appears on the grid, the bonus upgrades to Coyote Spins. For each Scatter that appears, the player receives two additional spins.
Coyote Spins are triggered when seven or more Scatters land on the grid. Initially, the player gets 12 free spins, and each Scatter will grant two more. In this bonus round, xBomb symbols add 1 to the win multiplier for each un-exploded x-symbol on the grid. By the way, this multiplier value does not reset during Coyote Spins until the bonus ends. This allows players to accumulate multipliers and achieve even bigger wins.
In The Border, there’s a booster feature called Boosted xRIP. When activated, it guarantees that one Scatter appears on every spin. However, the slot does not credit any winnings to the balance if the spin results in winnings that end up being smaller than the bet itself. Additionally, the stake itself is increased by 50%.
